What is the Glucksberg & Krauss (1967) assessment of social referential communication test?
It is an experiment where children were placed on either side of a barrier.
One child was to describe how they arranged a series of blocks to the other child, where they had to replicate that same pattern with their own blocks.
What did they find from the Glucksberg & Krauss (1967) experiment?
It was found that younger children struggled with this - because they often link their descriptions to something within their own context.
What did Robinson (2003) identify?
Adult relationships have three main methods for initiating, maintaining and regulating social relationships:
Shaking hands
Terms of address
Being Polite
What were shaking hands historically done for?
They were a symbolic statement saying that you were friendly and were not holding a weapon (typically held in the right hand).
What are the two components of politeness that Robinson (2003) found?
Chances the behaviour could cause humiliation of either person
Likelihood of achieving desired outcome
