+ Full time job, promote personal brand, seen as role model, financial backing can increase participation.
-Deviant behaviour due to pressure, male over female, abled bodied over disabled, may have do do appearances and advertising they don’t like

Effects on sports from commercialisation?
+raised profile, increased levels of funding- facilities, equipment, increased participation of young people.
-tends to be an inequality between sports, changes to format and rules have been introduced, sports and clubs can become more interested in business side than enjoyment.
Effects on spectators of commercialistaion?
+wider choice of sports available to watch, investment to technology eg: Hawk eye, can watch anywhere
-Encourages spectators not performance, becomes expensive, breaks and adverts affect viewing experience
Sports become overexposed making it increasingly tedious
Effects on society of commercialisation?
+able to reflect on positive values and belief’s such as sportsmanship and respect, promotes BAHL, increased facilities for public
-some sponsors aren’t suitable eg: alcohol and tobacco, draws attention to hooliganism, increased sedimentary lifestyle as watch and don’t do

- Media can promote news stories increasing ANXIETY
- Increased media coverage and “hype”= rise in hooliganism and violence.
What’s the link between women and commercialisation?
Background- 20th century- expected to fulfil traditional roles and therefore has little time for free sport- women viewed as weaker sex
Stereotyping- needed to be ladylike- clothing had to be modest and was difficult to move in
Variety= less for women
Media coverage= limited/ none Discrimination= against women in sport- men’s only golf clubs
Opportunity- increased eg: 1969 Women’s FA
Media coverage increased (AO3) BUT still more coverage for men’s sport
Changed stereotypes and societal roles
Increased sponsorship= career financially viable
Increased revenue= increased prize money (AO3) BUT wage disparities are still large
