COI Flashcards
1
Q
When evaluating the current of injury (COI), what should you do if the signal is over amplified/cropped and why?
A
- hit the gain/resize button because you will not be able to identify tru R-Waves and differentiate them from the COI
- analyzer measures peak-peak and doesn’t differentiate R-wave from COI
2
Q
What does the COI look like on an ECG?
A
localized ST elevation
3
Q
What is the recommended action if unable to see any R-waves due to a large COI?
A
advise the surgeon to wait 5 mins as the COI will have reduced by 50% by that time
4
Q
How long does it take for 50% of the COI to diminish?
A
about 5 min
5
Q
How long does it take for the COI to recede completely?
A
about 10 - 15 min
6
Q
What are the 2 methods for measuring R-waves at implant?
A
- print paper at 50 mm/sec
- use single R-wave/frozen assessment (COI button)
