Co-careldopa Flashcards
1
Q
What class of drug is co-careldopa?
A
Combination of levodopa + peripheral dopa decarboxylase inhibitor
2
Q
What are the uses of co-careldopa?
A
Parkinson’s disease
3
Q
What is the mechanism of action of co-careldopa?
A
- levodopa: converted into dopamine in substantia nigra
- carbidopa: Inhibition of peripheral dopa decarboxylase which prevents levodopa conversion to dopamine in peripheries > Increased availability for CNS
4
Q
What are the adverse drug reactions of co-careldopa?
A
- drowsiness
- freezing
- sleep disorders
- dyskinesia
- impulse control disorders
5
Q
What are important drug drug interactions with co-careldopa?
A
- pyridoxine - increased breakdown in peripheries
- monoamine oxidase inhibitors - increases risk of hypertensive crisis
- antipsychotics - dopamine antagonist
6

Levodopa
Carbidopa
