A
Non-competitive platelet antagonist. Prevents release of ADP granules form activated platelets, reducing ability to activate further platelets.

A
Alternative (or additional adjunct) to aspirin in pt.’s w/ CP suggestive of MI, post MI and post stent placement

Contraindications
A
Active GI bleeding, intracranial hemorrhage

Adverse Effects
A
GI bleeding, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, cerebral hemorrhage

Precautions
A
Nexium and Prilosec may exhibit effects of Plavix

Dose and Administration
A
300-600mg loading dose PO (then 75mg daily PO)
