Mechanism of Action
Inhibits action of ACh at parasympathetic neuro effector sites
Indications
Severe bradycardia, organoposphate poisoning, nerve agent exposure, RSI in peds, beta blocker, and calcium channel blocker OD
Contraindications
Tachycardia, hypothermic bradycardia, unstable cardiovascuar status with bleeding and MI, narrow angle glaucoma
Adverse Effects
Drowsiness, confusion, H/A, tachycardia, N/V, pupil dilation, dry mouth, blurred vision, flushed dry hot skin, paradoxical bradycardia when given in low dses
Precautions
Effects enhanced by antihistamines
Dose and Administration
Bradycardia: 0.5mg q 3-5 mins
Max Dose/ACLS Dose
3mg slow IVP/0.04mg/kg
Pedi Dose
0.02mg/kg (min. 0.1mg)
