Clinical Tests Flashcards
Accuracy
How close the result is to the true value
Precision
How predictable the test results will be
False Positive
Test suggests disease but it is not present
False Negative
Test suggests no disease but disease is present
True Positive
Test suggest disease and patient does have it
True Negative
Test suggests no disease and no disease is present
Sensitivity
% of people with a disease who’s test suggested disease present
Specificity
% of people without a disease who’s test suggested they were healthy
Positive Predicted Value
% of people with a positive test who have the disease
Negative predicted value
% of people with a negative test who don’t have the disease
Incidence
Number of new cases of disease occurring in a population during a specific time period/ number of people exposed to the risk of developing the disease during that period of time
Prevalence
Number of cases of a disease present in a population at a specific point in time/ number of persons at risk of having the disease at that point in time
What happens to the positive predicted values as prevalence falls?
Falls
What happens to the negative predicted value as prevalence falls?
Rises
