• I am now going to check your wrist band
• Today i have been asked to check your blood sugar
• this will involve me pricking your finger with a small needle in order to get a small about of blood from your finger
• i will then put this blood onto a test strip which i will insert into a machine which will give me a reading

How to you carry out the procedure? (10)

1. wear gloves
2. put apron on
3. get a test strip and put it in the unit
4. make sure the code of he test strip matches the code of the container
5. lancet - make sure it is primed by pushing the clear plastic part in
6. you attach the disposable needle to the end
7. you then press your lancet to the side of the finger
8. this would produce a drop of blood
9. put this blood onto the end of your test strip
10. put gauze over finger
