Clinical emergencys Flashcards
What are two important signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest?
A person that is unresponsive or not breathing normally
What does DRSABCD stand for in a clinical setting?
D - check for danger
R - check for responsiveness
S - send for help using the call bell
A - open the airway
B - check for breathing - if not breathing start cpr
C - CPR (30 compressions; 2 breaths)
D - attach the defibrillator (AED) asap as follow promts
During a cardiac arrest what 3 things will act on the heart to get it pumping again?
CPR, Defibrillation, and first line drugs (such as adrenaline and amiodarone)
What are AEDs and what do they do?
They are automated external defibrillators that are designed to interpret the ECG rhythm and can advise a shock.
We must always do CPR on a person in the clinical setting unless…
They are DNACPR and it is clearly documented in the patients clinical file, or if the patient is clearly dead (i.e rigor mortis)
