- Poor sleep is common childhood problem
- Kids need about 9-12 hours of sleeo in 24 hours
- Multiple factors impact sleep at this age

Why is sleep important for childhood health? (2)
- sets kids up for long-term chronic diseases (CV disease, diabetes, etc)
- environmental factors like screen time, over-scheduling extracurriculars, stess, etc.
What is bullying?
- Willful, repeated aggressive behaviour with negative intent, used by a child to maintain power over another child
What can bullying result in?
- physical, psychological, social, or educational harm or distress being inflicted on the target youth
What can bullying look like? (3)
- In kids 4-11, it can be physical, verbal, and social
- Can be verbal, indirect, sexual harassment, body size or cyberbullying

At every age, boys show more physical aggression and more assertiveness than girls. What are the 2 types of aggression?
- Relational aggression
- Retaliatory aggression
What is relational aggression? (2)
- aggression aimed at damaging another person’s self-esteem or peer relationships
- girls are more likely to use this
What is retaliatory aggression? (2)
- Aggression to get back at someone who has hurt you
- Increases among boys and girls ages 6-12
Witnessing bullying can have negative consequences. What are some interventions and preventions to stop bullying? (6)
- Social support is a crucial buffer against continuing victimization
- Early interventions and prevention methods may be the best first course of action to take
- Anti-bullying campaigns
- Parents should set examples for kids
- Listen if someone is saying they are being bullied
- Education
What should nurses know about bullying, when it comes to caring for children? (3)
- Kids with chronic illnesses are at an increased risk of being bullied due to physical vulnerabilities, social skill challenges, and intolerant environments
- cannot keep up in gym or recess, may look physically different, miss classes
- as per assessments, keep this on the parents’ radar and be supportive to parents and children
