A
- unique to the individual
- core of who we are, and is dynamic throughout the lifetime
- it is how people experience and express themselves as sexual beings

A
- sexual wellbeing is an important part of providing holistic care
- Includes how we express that sense of gender, whom we are attracted to, and who is attracted to us

What is the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s (CIHR) definition of sex? (2)
A
- refers to a set of attributes in humans and animals
- usually categorized as female or male but there is variation, also referred to as intersex

What is sex associated with?
A
- primarily associated with physical and physiological features including chromosomes, gene expression, hormone levels and function, and reproductive/sexual anatomy

- it is a word we use to talk about how we understand our bodies and how we understand our relationships
- this understanding includes all aspects of who we are (diagram)
