circulatory system Flashcards
what is a antigen
protein on the outside of the foreign agent(bacteria, viruses etc)
what produces antigens
lymphocytes produce them in response to foreign agents
what causes inflammation
when tissue has been exposed to the external pathogens ie cutting our finger
what are the 4 things that occur in a inflammation reaction
1chemicals are released that activate our immune and nervous system
2 lymphocytes release antibodies to attack pathogens
3 phagocytes occurs
4 pus
what is pus
dead neutrophils, tissue, bacteria, living cells , indicates body the body is overcoming infection
what is + and - blood
+ you have protein and - you don’t
+people cannot donate too
- people
what is the rule of thumb for blood typing
same antigen x same antibody = agglutination
what is aggulatination
clumping in the blood
what are the ab blood types known as
universal accepters
what are the blood O known as
universal donors
what is the arterial side
-rich in o2 and nutrients
-blood pressure is higher than osmotic pressure so oxygen and nutrients enter the tissue
what is the venous side
rich in carbon dioxide and waste
- blood pressure is lower than osmotic pressure so water and co2 moves into capillaries from the tissue
