cell part 1 Flashcards
what is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
prokaryotic have no membrane bound organelles, eukaryotic do. eukaryotic are plant and animal cells, prokaryotic are bacteria and have a nucleus
what does the cell membrane do
controls the entrance and exit of molescules
what is a fluid mosaic model
a phospholipid bilayer with proteins
what do phospholipids look like
they have a polar head and a no polar tail
polar head means it
is water loving
polar tail means it
is water hating
what do the proteins do in the fluid mosaic model
they act like carriers for the molecules
what is nucleus function
it’s the control centre of the cell and holds genetic material
what is a double layer molecule in nucleus
nuclear envelop
what are the holes in the nucleus membrane called
nuclear pores
what is chromatin
it looks like a mass of thread and is the cell at rest
what are chromosomes
they are rod shaped and are the cell dividing
what are nucleoli functions
make rRNA for the ribosomes
how do you write ribosomal rna
rRNA
where are nucleoli found
in the nucleus
