Circulatory System 1 - Week 2 Notes Flashcards
Main functions of circulatory system
- supply oxygenated blood to all areas
- transport nutrients to cell of body
-removes waste
-fights infection - help temperature regulation
- Blood clotting helps in healing process
Pulmonary artery travels
away from the heart to the lungs
Pulmonary vein travels
blood to the heart
Components of the circulatory system
Heart
Blood
Blood vessels
Heart has four chambers
- Two at the atria
- two at the ventricles
Blood travel directions
- blood vessels coming into the heart come in via the left atria
Blood travel direction
Leaves Lungs pulmonary vein to heart via the ( left atria ) then out of the left ventricle
Then exchange or gases and entered into the right atrium and out of the right ventricle back through the pulmonary artery back to the lungs
Circulatory pathways
Pulmonary circulation
-to lungs and return
systemic circulation
- to rest of body and return
These stop the back flow of blood into Veins
Valves
A wave of artery wall expansion caused by heartbeat
Pulse
Largest or al veins
Vena cava
Muscle that separates the left side to the right side of the heart
Septum
Average human body had how many litres of blood in body
4-5
Yellow watery component of blood is
Plasma
Only artery that carries de-oxygenated blood is
Pulmonary artery
