Developmental Psychology
Examines our physical, cognitive and social development across the life span.
Cross-Sectional Studies
Comparing people of different ages.
Longitudinal studies
Following people across time.
Nature and Nurture
Individuals are formed b y the interaction of biological psychological, and social-cultural forces.
Continuity and Stages
Development is viewed either as a flow, on going programmed into people’s genes. Stage theories help focus on the forces and in tests that affect individuals at different points of life.
Stability and Change
Stability marks one’s personality as one ages. It gives the individual his other identity. The ability to change gives individuals hope for a brighter future. It lets them adapt and grow with experiences.
Chromosome
Threadlike structures made of DNA molecules that contain the genes.
DNA
Molecule containing the genetic info that makes up the chromosomes.
Genes
Biochemical units of heredity tat makes up the chromosomes and are segments of DNA.
Heredity
Genetic transfer of neurons characteristics from parents to offspring.
Genome
Complete instructions for making an organism, consisting of all the genetic material in that organisms chromosomes.
Interaction of Heredity and Environment
A person’s genetically influenced traits affects how others respond.
Environment
Every external influence, from prenatal nutrition to social support in later life.
Interaction
Interplay that occurs when the effects of one factor depends on another factor.
Epigenetics
The study of environmental influences an occurs without a DNA change.
