7-11 years
Devotion of energy to school and peers. Progressive interaction with opposite sex. Expectations for behavior and academics intensifies
development at 7-11 years
distress when separated from a parent or approached by a stranger; usually appears at about 6-9 months and can last until 24 months of age
stranger anxiety/separation anxiety
Reflexive, NOT voluntary. In severe cases can have tetanic spasms, body jerks, and urinary incontinence (not a seizure)
Breath-Holding Spells (6mos-6yrs)
When are most children able to go through the night without being fed?
Most infants beyond 6 months of age (this doesn’t mean that they sleep the whole time!)
Peak age for nightmares
3-5 yrs
occur during the deepest stage of sleep, and often associated with sleepwalking. wake up thrashing and screaming, and will exhibit rapid breathing, tachycardia, and sweating
