Chapters 4&5 Vocabulary Flashcards
Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Force Pair
Mutual actions between objects where each object exerts an equal and opposite force on the others.
AKA: Action-Reaction Pairs
Momentum
Inertia in motion.
Formula: momentum= mass•velocity
mom=mv
An action between two different objects.
Interaction
The quantity of force x time interval. (Change in momentum)
Impulse
A physical quantity the remains unchanged during a process.
Conserved
In the absence of external force, the momentum of a system remains unchanged.
Law of Conservation of Momentum
A collision in which colliding objects rebound without lasting damage or the release of heat.
Elastic Collision
A collision in which colliding objects tangle together and generate heat.
Inelastic Collision
The tendency of things to resist changes in motion.
