Chapter 22 Flashcards
Contains only a single element or compound.
Pure
A mixture containing two or more elements or compounds.
Impure
The different components can be seen individually. (Salad dressing)
Heterogeneous mixture
A mixture with the same composition throughout. (Alloys)
Homogenous mixture
A combination of two or more substances in which each substance retains its properties.
••mixtures retain the ability to be separated.
Mixture
Mixture with the components all in the same phase. (Saltwater, air)
Solution
Homogeneous mixture in which the components are in different phases. (Blood, milk)
Suspension
The substance that is dissolved In a solution.
Solute
The substance that dissolves the solute into the solution.
Solvent
The mixing or breaking down of the solute into the solvent.
Dissolving
A solution that contains the maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved.
Saturated solution
A solution in which more solute could be dissolved.
Unsaturated solution
A solution that has excess solute placed in it and this excess settles to the bottom.
Supersaturated solution
The ratio of the amount of solute dissolved in the solvent. Solute/solvent
Concentration
The number of atoms in exactly 12 g of the carbon 12 isotope.
Mole
