Chapters 2 and 3 Write Out Definitions Flashcards
What is speed?
Speed is the distance an object travels per unit of time
What is Acceleration?
Acceleration is the change of velocity of an object over time
What is Freefall?
Freefall is when an object falls due to gravity free from air resistance.
- can only happen in a vacuum or in outer space
What is Mass?
Mass is the amount of matter in an object
What is Force?
A force is any push or pull on an object
What is weight?
weight is the measure of gravitational force exerted on an object’s mass
What is g?
acceleration of a falling object due to gravity
What is physical science?
Physical science is the study of matter and energy
What is Centripetal force?
Centripetal force is a force that causes an object to move in a curved/ circular path
What is intertia?
Inertia is the tendency of an object to resist any change in the object’s motion
What is friction?
Friction is the force that opposes the motion between 2 surfaces in contact
What is Newton’s 1st law of motion
an object at rest tends to stay at rest and an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
What is Newton’s 2nd law of motion
the amount of acceleration an object has depends on the objects mass and the force put on the object
What is Newton’s 3rd law of motion
for every action force there is an equal and opposite reaction force
