Sonar
SOund NAvigation and Ranging
Sea level
The level of the surface of the oceans
Salinity
How much dissolved salt in seawater. Usually expressed in grams of salt per kilogram of water OR parts per thousand (same thing) OR ppt (abbreviated version of parts per thousand)
Temperature profile
Plots changing water temperatures by depth. Varies due to location and season
Thermocline
A water layer with rapidly changing temperature with depth
Wave
Rhythmic motion that carries energy through space/stuff
Crest
Highest point of wave
Trough
Lowest point of wave
Breaker
A collapsing wave
Tides
