Chapter 9 - Assesment Of fitness Flashcards
What is validity in regards to fitness tests
Is it an appropriate test to measure specific fitness component.
Reasons for fitness Assesment
Strength/weaknesses of fitness components Determine player positions Improve motivation Establish baseline Predict potential Workplace criteria ie.) Police
What is reliability in regards to fitness testing?
The ability for a test to produce repeatable consistent results. Ie.) The more controlled the environment is the more reliable the testing.
What is a “gold standard” fitness test?
Tests acknowledged to be the best tests to DIRECTLY measure a specific fitness component.
What is accuracy in terms of fitness testing.
How well does the result reflect performance in test. How much error was due to the measurement of results or not adhering to protocols.
Ie.) The precision of testing equipment
What is informed consent in regards to fitness testing?
Agreement of performer to continue with testing after being made aware of the risks involved in the test.
What is the difference between a maximal fitness test and a sub-maximal one
Maximal test is a test that is performed as close as possible to exhaustion, while sub-maximal is not.
Difference between direct and indirect testing?
Direct testing measure the function of a fitness component. (ie. Vo2 max)
Indirect fitness tests are used to predict the level of fitness. (ie. predicts Vo2 hence aerobic capacity)
What are four things you must take into account when selecting a fitness test?
Specificity
How results are compared (Norms Vs Criteria Vs improvement)
Sequencing of tests
Resourcing equipment
