When was ASADA established?
2006
When was WADA established and when did it come into effect? How did doping regulation occur before this?
Established in 1999
Came into effect 2003
Before this each sporting organisation enforced their own rules with testing and punishment often being non-existent.
Rational for doping codes;
Health Safety Fairness Role modelling for children Maintenance of the spirit of sport
What WADA defines as doping.
The occurrence of one or more of the following violations.
- presence of possession of prohibited substance or method
- Use of a prohibited substance of method
- Refusal to admit sample or evade sample collection.
- Trafficking of a banned substance or method
- Tampering with any part of the doping control process
- Covering up an anti-doping violation
How does WADA decide if a substance is to be prohibited?
A substance is banned if it fits into one or more of following categories.
- ) Potential or actual health risk
- ) Potential to enhance performance
- ) Violate spirit of sport
Also; Any substance which has the potential to mask a banned substance or is not approved for human use is automatically banned.

The two roles of WADA:
Protect athletes fundamental right to compete in a doping free environment and thus promote health, fairness and equality.
To ensure harmonised, co-ordinate anti-doing programs in regard to detection deterrence and prevention of doping.
