emergency department (ED)
provides immediate medical care 24/Day, 7 day/ week
medical/surgical unit
for pts who are admitted to the hospital for surgery, testing, observation, or treatment of an illness that doesn’t require constant, intensive, care
intensive care unit (ICU)
provides care to pts who are critically ill
stepdown unit
for pts who no longer need intensive care but need more care than is given in the med/surg unit
labor and delivery unit
where pts give birth and stay until they’re discharged
subacute care units
for pts who don’t need the level of care in med/surg unit but are not ready to go home
bariatric bed
bed used for obese pts and can accommodate pts 250-1000 lbs
alternating pressure bed
used to prevent/treat pressure injuries
pulmonary therapy bed
provides pressure redistribution along w/ percussion and vibration therapies under the pts chest
occupied bed
a bed made while the pt is still in the bed
unoccupied bed
a bed made while no pt is in the bed
surgical bed
made to accept pts who are returning to bed on stretchers or gurneys
