Q

What are the steps in the process of exocytosis?

A
  1. DNA starts in the nucleus, which then gets turned into mRNA
  2. The mRNA travels to the rough ER, and the mRNA is a template for ribosomes to make proteins
  3. Vesicles bud off from the ER membrane with the new proteins inside
  4. These proteins then go to the Golgi Apparatus for further processing
  5. Another vesicle buds off from the Golgi to help the protein exit the cell

Q

How are proteins sent to the right place in the Golgi?

A

Proteins contain amino acid sequences that code for various destinations within the Golgi. Some codes contain specific “tags” that are picked up by receptor proteins destined for these locations/destinations.
