Chapter 7: Nuclear Transport Flashcards
1
Q
What things are contained within the nucleus?
A
Nucleotides, ribosomes (nucleolus is the site of ribosome manufacturing), proteins, and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA)
2
Q
What is the purpose of nuclear pores?
A
RNA, nucleotides, ribosomes, and proteins can pass through the pores. But chromosomal DNA cannot.
3
Q
What is glycosylation?
A
The process of proteins getting into and out of the nucleus because their amino acid sequences contain codes for nuclear import and export. There are different coding signals for targeting proteins to different sites in the cell.
