What is Ingestion?
Entry of food through the mouth.
What is Digestion?
The process of food breaking down into nutrients for bodily use.
What is Absorption?
Completely digested nutrients are transported to the body’s cells.
What is elimination?
Expelling the waste products of digestion from the body.
What are accessory organs that play a key role in the digestive process but are not part of the GI tract?
Liver, Gallbladder and pancreas.
What does the Liver do?
Produces a digestive juice called bile to help break down the fat in the small intestine.
What does the Gallbladder do?
Stores the bile for later use.
What does the Liver do?
Produces and secretes pancreatic juices that aid in digestion and contain enzymes to help neutralize stomach acids.
