Chapter 7 Lesson 3 Flashcards
What is the definition of metabolism?
Chemical reactions inside of cells that turn nutrients into energy
What is the definition of anabolic?
Causes reactions which make larger molecules out of smaller ones
What is the definition of catabolic?
Causes reactions that break down larger molecules into smaller ones
What is the definition of exergonic?
Causes reactions which release more energy than they require
What is the definition of endergonic?
Causes reactions that require more energy than they release
What is the definition of hydrolosis?
The breaking down of a chemical using water
What happens first in an ATP/ADP cycle, anabolic (endergonic) reactions or catabolic (exergonic) reactions?
Anabolic (Endergonic)
Briefly describe the ATP/ADP cycle
First the molecules go through anabolic reactions to turn into ATP and the they go through phosphate transfer into catabolic reactions which turns it into ADP and this process repeats itself
Is an anabolic reaction exergonic or endergonic?
Endergonic
Is a catabolic reaction exergonic or endergonic?
Exergonic
