Chapter 6 - Simple Circuits Flashcards
Electricity
Electricity is a form of energy, it is the movement of electrons.
Electrons
Small negatively charged particles. Protons (positively charged) Neutrons (no charge) Electrons (negatively charged, light and orbits on the outside)
Electric Charge
Electrons can be ‘knocked’ out of orbit, allowing them to move, this is called electricity.
Static Electricity
The build up of electrons that have been displaced on a surface, by rubbing 2 surfaces together, electrons jump form negative surfaces to positive surfaces.
Current Electricity
The flow of electrons along a conductor. This is what powers our electrical appliances, and is tranfered into kinectic erergy or heat energy.
Electric Circuit
A path along which electrons travel and deliver their energy. It contains an energy source (power point or battery), an energy user (light bulb), and a conductor (wires)
Closed and opened ciruits
A switch opens or closes the circuit. For electrons to flow it must be closed.
