Chapter 6 - Combination Circuits + Electrical Safety Flashcards
What are the 3 Electrical Cables and what do they do?
Electric cables are made of three separate wires:
- Active wire (brown), brings electricity in
- Neutral wire (blue), brings electricity out
- Earth wire (green, yellow), prevents electrocution
What is a Fuse?
Wires of high resistance and low melting temperature, increased current melts the wire and breaks the circuit.
Must be manually replaced.
What is a safety switch?
Detects leaking current in 0.03 seconds and breaks the circuit immediately. This protects you from electrocution.
What is a Circuit Breaker?
Designed to protect the wiring and circuitry of your house.
Will cut the power when too much current is present in the circuit, which stops overheating.
