Chapter 6 - Practical Circuits Flashcards
Series Circuit Current
-The current flowing through the whole circuit is the same
Series Circuit Resistance
In a series circuit, the resistance of each component adds up to give the total resistance
Series Circuit Volatage
In a series circuit, the voltage supplied by the battery is shared by all components in the circuit. (e.g. split evenly between bulbs)
Parallel Circuit Voltage
- Each “branch” gets the FULL voltage of the battery
– Components do not need to share voltage
Parallel Circuit Current
- In parallel circuits, each “branch” draws a current proportional to its resistance
- Total current: Add each “branch’s” current together.
Parallel Circuit Resistance
In Parallel circuit you do not add the resistance of the different branches together.
**Not in the test
Combination Circuits
Combination circuit is a circuit that has bother series and parallel components
Series Circuit
- In a series circuit, there is only one path for electrons to flow, creating a single loop.
-If one energy user is broken, the entire circuit breaks
Parallel Circuit
Parallel circuits can have multiple paths or “branches” containing components
