Chapter 5 Flashcards
muscle action (iso kinetic vs. iso metric)
Iso kinetic: muscle shortens at constant speed
iso metric: length constant; exerting force = force placed on muscle; STABILZATION
concentric vs eccentric muscle action
concentric: shortening of M as exerting force > resistive force “acceleration of action” POWER
Eccentric: tension while M lengthening; resistive force > muscle force “deceleration of action”STRENGTH, HYPERTROPHY
ALL THINGS SCAPULAR
Retraction/Protraction/Depression/Elevation
Retraction: adduction; towards midline
Protraction: Abduction; away from midline (wide back)
Depression: inferior movement
Elevation: superior movement
ALL THINGS HORIZONTAL
Ab vs Ad duction
Abduction: arm/thigh front midline to lateral
Adduction: arm/thigh front lateral to midline

Proprioception
Related to motor control; definition
Planes of Motion
Frontal- line creates anterior/posterior; body is bordered front./back by glass (side to side movements.i.e. side lunges; shoulder lateral raises)
Sagittal - body is bordered laterally by glass wall; bisected into left and right halves; front to back; up to down (squats)
Transverse - line divides body into upper and lower (reverse flys;

Force-Couple Relationship
muscles or muscle groups moving together, in a synergistic manner, to produce movement around a joint.
