Chapter 15 Flashcards
Exercise Modalities (equipment options) types
Resistance & proprioceptive challenge
Suspension
stabilization level 1, supersets in phase 2
Elastic Resistance
Endurance & Joint stabilization (no for hypertrophy/strength) Phase 1 & 2
Cable Machines
Control
All phases of OPT
Excellent for core; transverse plane twisting
Resistance Machines
Provide stability; Single joint; progress soon to cables or weights
Free weights
Dumbells - strength & joint stability
Barbells - hypertrophy/maximal strength
Kettle Bells
vs. dumbells KBs provide different stability; require more strength and stability; swing exercises
Medicine Ball
Essential for Power Level training (Phase 5)
Held in hand as a dynamic
way to add resistance to body weight exercises or used as a base of support to change body position.
Proprioceptive Modalities
Stability Balls - support
Bosu Balls - Phase 1 and 2; balance beams or half foam rolls, and then work up to using foam pads and
balance discs before attempting dynamic training with a BOSU ball.
Whole body vibration - Russian invention for astronauts; adds gravity effect to muscles i.e. greater muscle fiber involvement; joint stabilization
