chapter 5 Flashcards
Eukaryotes domain
Domain: Eukarya
Protists - Plants - Fungi - Animals
Prokaryotes domains
Domain: Archaea - Domain: Bacteria
Prokaryotes thrive almost everywhere, including places too acidic,
salty, cold, or hot for most other organisms
- Photoautotrophs
perform photosynthesis
Chemoautotrophs
oxidize inorganic substances
Photoheterotrophs
are purple non-sulfur bacteria that use light as an energy
source but obtain carbon from organic molecules produced by other
organisms
Chemoheterotrophs
obtain both energy and carbon from organic molecules
produced by other organisms
Structures of Prokaryotes
No nucleus, no membranebound organelles
Eukaryotes structure
Have nucleus
* Have membrane-bound organelles
* More complex than prokaryotes
