Hypothalamus
Regulates many motivational behaviors such as eating drinking and flight/fight and secretes hormones
Limbic system
Refers to a group of about a half dozen interconnected structures that make up the core of the fore brain; regulates many motivational behaviors and organizes emotional behaviors with memories
Thalamus
Receives sensory info then sends it to cortex
Amygdala
Receives input from all the senses and evaluates emotional significance of stimuli
Hippocampus
Involved in saving many kinds of fleeting memories
Sympathetic division
Triggered by a threatening or challenging stimuli
Parasympathetic division
Helps return body to normal state
Homeostasis
Sympathetic and parasympathetic work simultaneously and together to keep body functioning
Hormones
Various chemicals secreted by the endocrine system
Endocrine system
Made up of numerous glands which secrete hormones
Thyroid
Regulates metabolism through the release of hormones
Adrenal glands
Secretes hormones that regulate sugar and salt and help the body to relax
Epinephrine
Adrenaline
Norepinephrine
Noradrenaline
Gonads
Regulate sexual development
