caring, respect, clear communication, professionalism. Clients concerns taken seriously and Trainer is highly qualified. The environment is clean and organized.
What are the nonverbal components? Rapport stage
Voice Quality- firm and confident
Eye Contact- direct friendly eye contact
Facial Expression- Genuine
Hand gestures- Relaxed fluid hand gestures
Body Position- open, well balanced, erect body
What must you do in Investigation Stage?
Gathering Information- health history form
Demonstrate Effective Listening- Listen to works and emotions behind speakers words
Responding to difficult Situations- short response, make sure it is in scope of practice
Ways to demonstrate good listening by responding in these ways? What is encouraging? What is Paraphrasing? What is Questioning? What is Reflecting? What is Summarizing?
- Encouraging- short words to encourage to continue speaking, or nodding head.
- Paraphrasing- restating in clear and concise way essence of what client saying
- Questioning- Open Ended Questions
- Reflecting- Restate main points and feelings in clients communication. Help move conversation.
- Summarizing- Summarize key points that have bearing to program design.

Setting Goals

Planning Phase- Setting goals, they should be SMART Goals, which are?
Specific, Measurable, attainable, relavent, time bound
What is a process goal Vs a Product goal?
Process goal is something client does like completing a certain amount of workouts per week
Product goal is something achieved like weight loss or lifting a certain amount.
What is Motivational interviewing?
Refers to a method of speaking with people in a way that motivates them to make a decision to change behavior.. Supportive council while challenging a current behavior.
Steps for successful Motivational Interviewing?
- Ask Probing questions- open ended, help client conclude that health is important.
- Listen Effectively
- Provide Educational Information
- Keep conversation Friendly
- Build Self Confidence
- Encourage clients to generate ideas.
