Theodore Roosevelt, Rough Riders, Roosevelt corollary

A

assistant Sec. of the Navy who left his post to be a member of the Rough Riders (with Leonard Wood) who fought during the Spanish American War. Later as President once the U.S. invested in and built the Panama Canal TR attached the Roosevelt Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine-which stated all countries need to go through the U.S. if they wanted to talk to Latin America.

Great White Fleet, Big stick diplomacy, Russo Japanese War

A

GWF-16 major battle ships sent around the world to show U.S. military might under TR. This was a great example of Big Stick Diplomacy where other countries would back down once they saw how powerful we were. TR was also asked to intervene into the conflict in Manchuria which would end the Russo Japanese War and win TR the Nobel Peace Prize.

Emilio Aguinaldo

A

-Filipino revolutionary that at first worked with the U.S. to remove the Spanish, then was upset the U.S. occupied the Philippines. Eventually had to be captured to put down an anti-U.S. rebellion.

A

after 10 years and $400 million dollars a canal was built to improve trade and defense. The original idea for a canal was Nicaragua, but that failed and the next issue was Colombia controlled Panama, so the Panamanians had to eventually rebel against the Colombians with the help of the U.S.
