Describes the way the body responds and adapts to stress.

  1. Alarm reaction: Initial reaction to stressor.
  2. Resistance development: Body increases functional capacity to adapt to a stressor.
  3. Exhaustion: Prolonged stress that is intolerable and will produce exhaustion or distress.
