The artificial watering of land. Used to grow crops in dry regions

The term used to describe the spreading of deserts
Why does desertification happen?
Soil looses its ability to hold moisture
Name three causes of desertification?
- Deforestation
- Animals overgrazing

Production cycle
The length of time it takes to process a good before it’s ready to be an output
Reservoir
A huge water storage area where water is then pumped to a water treatment station
Sustainable exploitation
The exploitation of resources by the present generation without endangering the needs of future generations
What is the importance of clean water?
- All living things need water to survive
- We need approx. 5 litres of water a day
- Large number of diseases suffered by people in the developing world are caused by lack of clean water
- Water is needed to graw crops
What is being done to conserve water?
- in some regions businesses are charged water rates. This discourages wasteful use of water
- Some electrical appliances have been fitted with devices to use water more efficiently
- Some industries recycle water
- TV and radio campaigns urge consumers to save water
