What are the four approaches for todays turbulent times (contemporary leadership)?
Level 5 leadership, servant leadership, authentic leadership, interactive leadership.
What is level 5 leadership?
Highest level in hierarchy of manager capabilities, (humility), fierce resolve to do what’s best for organization, shy/ self-effacing, credit to others.
What is servant leadership?
Work exists for development of worker, transcend self-interest to serve others, give away power/ideas/info/recognition/credit/money.
What is authentic leadership?
Understand themselves, act with ethical values, stays true to themselves, inspire trust/commitment, respect diverse viewpoints.
What is interactive leadership?
The leader favors consensual and collaborative process, associated with level 5 leaders and female leaders
What is management to leadership?
Good managers must be leaders, management promotes stability and order within existing structure.
What is great man theory?
There is one best way to lead and that deeply seated personality variables allow certain people to lead.
What are leadership traits?
Effective leaders possess varied traits and combine with natural strengths, which are natural talents and abilities reinforced by learned knowledge and skills.
What are behavioral approaches?
Defined leadership behaviors as task-oriented or people-oriented.
What are the two major behaviors Ohio State found?
Consideration which is people oriented and initiating structure which is task oriented.
What behaviors did Michigan determine to be effective and ineffective of supervisors?
Employee centered leaders which is most effective and, job-centered leaders which is not effective (less concerned with human needs).
What is situational theory of leadership?
Focus on characteristics of followers, subordinates vary in readiness determined by degree of willingness and ability a subordinate demonstrates while performing a task.
What is charismatic and transformational leadership?
Charismatic leaders are skilled in art of visionary leadership, inspire and motivate to do more, speak to the hearts of employees to be a part of something big.
What is position power?
Legitimate power, reward power, coercive power.
