What is self-awareness?
Being aware of internal aspects of ones nature, such as personality traits, beliefs, emotions, attitudes, and perceptions, and appreciating how your patterns affect people.
What is solicitating feedback enhancing self-awareness?
Seeking feedback to enhance self-awareness improves performance and job satisfaction.
What is self assessment enhancing self-awareness?
Reflection to gain insights into oneself from the results of self-assessment instruments.
What is interdisciplinary field organizational behavior?
Study human attitudes, behavior, and performance in organizations.
What is the effect of attitudes?
Evaluation that predisposes a person to act in a certain way, managers want to develop and reinforce positive attitudes, positive people more effective/productive.
What is cognitive dissonance?
Discomfort that occurs when individuals recognize inconsistencies in their own attitudes and behavior.
What is the halo effect and perceptual defense of perceptual distortions?
Halo is impression based on one characteristic, perceptual is protecting oneself against threatening objects and ideas.
What are attributions?
Judgements about the cause of a persons behavior.
What is the perception process?
Observe, screen, organize.
What is a fundamental attribution error?
Underestimating the influence of external factors and overestimating the influence of internal factors.
What is a self-serving bias?
Giving too much credit for oneself when a job is done well, and blaming external factors for failure to perform.
What are the five big personality traits?
Extroversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism (emotional stability), openness to new experiences.
What is a locus of control?
Responsibility of success/failure within oneself vs. outside forces.
What is authoritarianism?
Power and status differences should exist within organization.
What is machiavellianism?
Focus on acquiring power.
What is the effect of emotions?
Good managers pay attention to peoples emotions, people cannot be separated from their emotions.
What are the principles for self-management?
Clarity of mind, clarity of objectives, organized system.
What is the effect of stress and stress management?
Too much stress is negative, causes of stress is often task demands and interpersonal demand.
What is challenge stress?
Stress that challenges and helps increase focus.
What is threat stress?
Stress that is counterproductive, presenteeism is when people go to work but are too stressed to be productive.
What is type A behavior?
Pattern characterized by extreme competitiveness, impatience, aggressiveness, and devotion to work.
What is type B behavior?
Pattern that lacks type A characteristics and includes more balanced relaxed lifestyle.
What are task demands?
Stressors arising from the tasks required of a person holding a particular job, role ambiguity is when person is unclear of task behavior expectations.
What are interpersonal demands?
Stressors associated with relationships in the organizations, role conflict is when individual faces incompatible demands.
