Chapter 13 Flashcards
Define Prospective studies and name an example
Studies that are done to watch the outcomes basically wait and watch to see what happens
Example: development of a disease
Define Epidemiologic studies and name an example
Identifies factors that affect the health and disease of a population
Example: studying what factors affect a population to get diabetes
Define Clinical trials and name an example
Compares drugs to a placebo drug kind of thing and which is better

How much health may your patients experience if they follow your guidance to live a healthy lifestyle?
A WHOLE LOT
Can someone exercise regularly and still be considered pretty inactive? How?
YES THEY CAN. Because they workout once a day but if they just sit and do nothing the rest of the day then they can be inactive. THey need to workout and move throughout the day multiple times to not be considered inactive
If we exercise, do we need to make sure we don’t spend too much time being inactive? How and Why?
YES WE DO because if we only workout for 45min in the day then we are still being super inactive during the day and aren’t considered active and can still get the bad diseases. BUT if we work out throughout the day multiple times a day (even walking) then we will be chillin
If we exercise, are regularly-active, sleep appropriately, and eat good food, may we be healthier than our genomes alone
would predict? How?
YES WE WILL because the gene has a lot of flexibility so if we do these things stated then we can beat the gene and make them flexible and not be obese and be healthy
What is the intention of the Healthy People goals that are updated every 10 years?
They essential set goals to improve on certain health things that we are struggling in. try to promote quality of life, improve health in groups, prevent people from getting preventable disease, create healthier environments
Define the Placebo Effect
when a person’s health improves after taking a fake or non-active treatment. WHERE THEY THINK THEY ARE IMPROVING BECAUSE OF THE PILL BUT THEY ARE NOT.
Define Sedentarism
a lifestyle that involves a lot of sitting or lying down, with little to no physical activity
What is Gene/physical activity interaction? Define it
Basically if you workout the obese and nonobese genes will all be the same level of effectiveness and will not affect your ability to have higher body fat or lower body fat BUT IF YOU DO NOT WORKOUT THEN THE OBESE GENE WILL CAUSE YOU TO HAVE A HIGHER BODY FAT % AND IF YOU HAVE THE NONOBESE GENE THEN YOU WILL HAVE A LOWER BODY FAT 5
