Chapter 12 - Posture, Movement, and Performance Assessments Flashcards
Static posture
positioning of the muscoloskeletal system while the body is motionless
Dynamic posture
alignment of the body while in motion
Pes planus
collapsed arch of the foot; flat foot
Static postural assessment
provides insight to deviations from optimal alignment of the body in a standing posture
Knee valgus
knees collapse inward due to hip adduction and internal rotation
Pes planus distortion syndrom
flat feet, knee valgus, and adducted and internally rotated hips
Overactive muscles in pes planus distortion syndrome
Gastroc & soleus (calves), adductor, hip flexors
Underactive muscles in pes planus distortion syndrome
Anterior and posterior tibialis (shin muscles), and gluteus maximus and medius
Lower crossed syndrome
anterior pelvis tilt and excessive lordosis of lumbar spine
Overactive muscles in lower crossed syndrome
hip flexors & lumbar extensors
Underactive muscles in lower crossed syndrome
gluteus maximus and medius, hamstrings, abdominals
Upper crosses syndrome
forward head and protracted shoulders
Overactive muscles in upper crossed syndrome
Pectoralis major and minor, levator scapula and sternocleidomastoid, upper trap
Underactive muscles in upper crossed syndrome
middle and lower traps, rhomboids, deep cervical flexors
Overheard squat assessment
designed to assess dynamic posture, core stability, and neuromuscular control
