Other common routes of naloxone administration include
Intravenous and intramuscular
All of the same considerations described for administering injectable naloxone apply when administering naloxone in any other form. follow these steps to to administer a medication intranasally:
-obtain medical direction per local protocol,
-confirm correct medication and expiration date
-attempt to determine if the patient is allergic to any medication
-Prepare the medication and attach the automizer. Never use a needle.
-Place the automizer in one nostril pointing up and slightly outward
-Administer a half dose one ML maximum into each nostril
-Reassess the patient and document appropriately
if you do not have naloxone available, note that ______ can also provide necessary treatment to opioid overdose patients until definitive treatment can be reached
