3 STAGES
1. ALARM: SENSE STIMULI, SIGNALS AMYGDALA WHERE IT DECIDES IF DANGEROUS, IF BAD SENDS SIGNAL TO HYPOTHALAMUS WHICH USES AUTONOMIC NERVES TO HAVE ADRENAL REALEASE EPI
ONCE EPI SUBSIDES THE HYPOTHALAMIC PITUITARY ADRENAL AXIS IS GAS PEDAL OF SYSTEM THAT KEEP ON HIGH ALERT. PIUITARY GLAND RELEASES ACTH WHICH TELLS ADRENALS TO RELEASE CORTISOL TO INCREASE BG, MUSCLE ENDURANCE, AND DECREASE IMMUNE/MEMORY
- RESISTANCE: SUSTAINED/OPTIMAL RESISTANCE TO STRESSOR OCCURS AT THIS POINT VALUABLE RESORCES USED UP.
- EXHAUSTION: STRESS IS CHRONIC. CONSTANT HIGH CORTISOL LEVELS CREATE ANXIETY DISORDERS, MAJOR DEPRESSIVE, SLEEP DIS, HERAT DISEASE, DIGEST PROB, WEIGHT GAIN
