Chapter 10- Capillary Tissue Fluid Exchange Flashcards
arterial end
Has to do with arteries or arterioles; blood enters the arterial end of a capillary bed; arterial blood is blood found in the arteries
capillary-tissue fluid exchange
Occurs in capillary beds, the process describes why oxygen and nutrients enter the tissue fluid from the blood and why carbon dioxide and metabolic wastes leave the tissue fluid and enter the blood
lymph capillaries
The starting point of the one-way lymphatic system; lymph capillaries originate in the tissues and drain tissue fluid that has not been reabsorbed into the bloodstream to lymph veins
osmotic pressure
The force that caused water to move in either direction across a semi-permeable membrane
plasma
The liquid portion of the blood; mainly consists of water; 7% to 8% of plasma consists of proteins
tissue fluid
Extracellular fluid which bathes the cells of most tissues, arriving via blood capillaries and being removed via the lymphatic vessels
venous end
Has to do with the veins or venules; blood enters the venule at the venous end of a capillary bed; venous blood is blood found in the veins
nutrients
A substance used by the body to survive, grow, and reproduce such as glucose and amino acids
