Chapter 02: Cell Derived Mediators Flashcards
where is NO produced?
produced by endothelial cells of blood vessels
what is the Fx of nitric oxide
vasodilator
causes smooth muscle to relax
what does NO inhibit?
cellular inflammation
inhibits adhesion of WBC’s to endothelial cells (pavementing)
what are eicosinoids?
arachadonic acid metabolites from phospholipid bi-layer
where are eicosoniods derived from?
AA
what cells produce eicosiniods?
all leukocytes and Mast cells
what two enzyme mediated pathway does AA pass thru to produce prostiglandins and thromboxanes?
cyclooxygenase and lipooxygenase
what is the fx of PGE2?
vasodilation and increase permeability
what is PGE2 associated with controlling?
controlling inflammation, pain, and fever
what is another role of PGE2 in females?
promotes uterine contravtion & cervix relaxation
what cell(s) produce PGD2?
mast cells
what does PGI2 induce?
induces bronchiospasm (asthma)
hyperalgesia
what does PGD2 inhibit?
hair grwoth
where is PGI2 produced?
is released by healthy endothelial cells
what is the fx of PGI2 on blood vessels?
Inhibits platelet aggreation and causes vasodilation
