CH 5 Sound Localization (TERMS) Flashcards
Interaural intensity (1,1)
Head casts a sound shadow producing intensity differences between ears
(Sound waves smash against side of skull/ear, brain determines which direction they came from)
- Effective for higher frequencies only
Both Cues
greatest at 900, none at 00 or 1800
Taste
Volatile chemical substances found in food that go in saliva and interact with taste buds
Microvilli
Tiny hairs on the taste buds that make contact with saliva and send signals to the brain
Myenlinated
Sensory signal that helps conveys pain information quicker from spinal chord to effective area
Kinesthesia
Brain creates map of body using receptors and tells you where your body parts are with respect to each other
Vestibular senses
Specifies the position of the head (and hence body) in space (i.e., balance)
