Q

GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid)

A

Brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter

  • Causes inhibitory postsynaptic potentials (IPSPs), making neurons less likely to fire.
  • Regulates anxiety; keeps the brain’s activity balanced and calm.
  • Low GABA levels lead to increased neural firing, causing anxiety and anxiety disorders.
