Cerebral arteries Flashcards
Which cerebral artery supplies the lateral frontal lobe?
the middle cerebral artery
Which cerebral artery supplies the medial frontal lobe
anterior cerebral artery
Which cerebral artery supplies the inferior frontal lobe?
ACA and MCA, a watershed region
Which cerebral artery supplies the lateral parietal lobe?
middle cerebral artery
Which cerebral artery supplies blood to the medial parietal lobe?
ACA
Which cerebral artery supplies blood to the medial temporal lobe?
PCA
Which cerebral artery supplies blood to the occipital lobe?
PCA
Which cerebral artery supplies blood to the lateral temporal lobe?
MCA
Which cerebral artery supplies blood to the inferior temporal lobe?
PCA
What are the 3 blood brain barriers?
CSF (which is produced by choroid plexus), arachnoid-dural layer (meninges), and Blood brain barrier
What part of the brain does the posterior inferior cerebellar artery supply blood to?
medulla
What are some functions of the medulla?
helps control blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, and other automatic functions; sends signals from the spinal cord to the brain
What part of the brain does the anterior inferior cerebellar artery supply blood to?
cerebellum
If a person has nonfluent aphasia and apraxia of speech, then that person has a lesion in which cerebral artery?
middle cerebral artery
If a person is suffering from dysarthria, then that person has a lesion in which cerebral artery?
PICA or another cerebellar artery
If a person is suffering from dizziness, then the person has a lesion where?
SCA, since it supplies blood to the cerebellum
If a person is experiencing cloudy thinking, then the person has a lesion in the
frontal lobe due to a disruption of blood flow from MCA and/or ACA
If a person is experiencing right hemiparesis, then the person has a lesion in the
primary motor cortex lesion due to a disruption of blood flow from ACA and MCA (watershed region)
What absorbs the CSF?
arachnoid granulations
What is the flow of CSF?
lateral ventricles then 3rd ventricles via interventricular foramen then 4th ventricle via sylvan aqueduct then 2 exits laterally (foramen of Luschka) then 2 exits medially (foramen of Magendie) then subarachnoid space that fills the brain and spinal cord
What is one possible consequence of hydrocephalus?
The brain gets compressed due to blockage of CSF flow; this compression constricts blood flow , oxygen, and nutrients to brain tissue and the tissue die.
What areas of the brain does the anterior choroidal artery supply?
choroid plexus, hippocampus
What areas of the brain does the ophthalmic artery supply?
eyeball, ocular muscles
What areas of the brain does the posterior choroidal artery supply?
choroid plexus (3rd ventricle)
Lenticulostriate arteries come from which cerebral artery?
MCA
The putamen and head of caudate nucleus are supplied by the ________
ACA and MCA
The thalamus is supplied by the
PCA
