Cerebellum Flashcards
What is the external anatomy of the Cerebellum made of?
- Cerebellar Cortex
2. Peduncles
What are the 3 pairs of Peduncles and what is their function?
- Superior Cerebellar Peduncle- Primarily carries the output from the cerebellum.
- Middle Cerebellar Peduncle- Exclusively carries input to the cerebellum.
- Inferior Cerebellar Peduncle- Primarily carries input to the cerebellum.
What are the 3 types of Cerebellar Nuclei and what part of the Cerebellum are they located in?
- Fastigial- Medial (Vermis)
- Interposed (Globose, Emboliform)- Intermediate
- Dentate- Lateral
What are the 3 functional divisions of the Cerebellum?
- Vestibulocerebellum
- Spinocerebellum
- Cerebrocerebellum
What region is the Vestibulocerebellum in, and what is its function?
Region: Flocculonodular Lobe
Function: Regulation of balance and eye movements
What region is the Spinocerebellum in, and what is its function?
Region: Vermis+Intermediate region
Function: Regulation of body and limb movement
What region is the Cerebrocerebellum in, and what is its function?
Region: Lateral Region
Function: Planning movement and evaluating sensory information.
